Koji SHIBUYA was born in 1968, and received the Bacheler, Master, and Dr. of Engineering Degrees in mechanical engineering from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1991, 1993, and 1998, respectively. From 1996 to 1998, he was a research associate in the School of Science and Engineering, Waseda University. From 1998 to 2002, he was a research associate in the Faculty of Science and Technology, Ryukoku University, where he has been a faculty member since 2002 and is currently a professor in the Faculty of Advanced Science and Technology, Ryukoku University. From Sept. 2004 to Aug. 2005, he served in AI Lab, University of Zurich as a visiting scholar. His current research interest includes violin-playing robots, four-legged and bipedal robots, underwater robots, brain-machine interface, and soft tactile sensors.

July, 2013. CLAWAR Association Best Technical Paper Award (Second Prize) for the paper titled "Effects of neck swing motion on the body posture of a four-legged robot" presented at CLAWAR2013 in Sydney
August, 2016. Best Paper Award (Theoretical Category) for the paper titled "How Violinists Alter Sound Volume and Tempo When Expressing Bright and Dark Timbres," presented at IEEE International Symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (RO-MAN) for 2016 in New York
